Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) has reportedly disclosed before the Supreme Court that it tapped 6,856 phones across the country in the month of May.

Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) has reportedly disclosed before the Supreme Court that it tapped 6,856 phones across the country in the month of May.

Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Sajid Ilyas Bhatti submitted a sealed envelope before the court on Wednesday, detailing the number of phones tapped by the agency, in compliance with a May 22 direction, reports the Dawn.

The report was shared with a three-judge Supreme Court bench, headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, during the hearing of a 19-year-old suo motu case, initiated by former Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah in 1996 after he noticed a device attached to his telephone by certain spy agencies.

The intelligence agency revealed that it had tapped 6,523 phone numbers in Feb, 6,819 in March, 6,742 in April and 6,856 in May.
