A letter to Mr Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan

A letter to Mr Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan

SC/DH-297
Right Honourable Mr Nawaz Sharif
Prime Minister House
Islamabad
Pakistan

Dear Nawaz Sharif Aslamo Alaykam
Re: Your historic mission and Kashmir.

Congratulations on your great success. You have won the confidence of the Pakistani nation. Under the circumstances this is an historic achievement and an historic opportunity to leave a permanent mark on the history.

You must have received thousands of letters and telegrams congratulating you on this occasion. Also people must have been very generous in giving new ideas and advice to you.

I wrote an article about your success and the great challenge which you have to face. Although you have magnanimous task ahead of you, but without flattering you, I believe you have the opportunity and ability to lead the nation out of this quagmire, and bring peace, stability and prosperity to the region.

You must ask yourself if that is possible without first solving the Kashmir problem. The problems of Pakistan and the Kashmir Issue are inextricably linked. The problems of Pakistan cannot be resolved in isolation. If a solution is found to the Kashmir dispute, which is acceptable to both India and Pakistan and majority of the Kashmiri people, then that will be beginning of a new era. And this new era could bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Indian Sub-Continent.

Mr Prime Minister, you know both India and Pakistan have entrenched positions on Kashmir, and it is mainly because of this that no solution could be found in the past fifty years. If you are serious and sincere in solving the problems and bringing peace, stability and prosperity, then you have to take some bold decisions and make a new start.

You need to evolve a new strategy to tackle the problems. I understand there would be opposition, but remember all the big ideas and great tasks are opposed at the beginning. You have very comfortable majority in the Parliament, and with will and determination you can do it. The nation is prepared to follow you- Pakistani people are very understanding and thinking people, if they are properrly explained that the Kashmir problem is adding to their problems and its solution will help to solve some of the problems faced by Pakistan, they will support this move. Use this opportunity and make arrangements to provide the Kashmiri people their unfettered right of self determination. I am sure whatever the decision it will be acceptable to the Pakistani nation, because it will bring peace, stability and prosperity to the region.

In the pursuit of peace and solution of the Kashmir problem, our services are at your disposal. I would love an opportunity to meet you or your colleagues to discuss this idea further.

May God make you successful in your mission?

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely

Shabir Choudhry
