Memorandum presented to the High Commission of Pakistan on 22 Oct 2024.

Memorandum presented to the High Commission of Pakistan on 22 Oct 2024.

Your Excellency Dr Mohammad Faisal

1. We are holding this protest to remind the government of Pakistan that they have miserably failed to honour the obligations they assumed under the Standstill Agreement concluded with the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, and the UNCIP Resolutions.

2. Sadly, against the terms of the Standstill Agreement and against the Islamic teaching Pakistan attacked the State of Jammu and Kashmir on 22 October to occupy the small neighbour.

3. Also, it is painful to note that Pakistan initiated this proxy war in the name of Jihad, and they allowed the invaders to kill innocent people, loot and plunder and kidnap women and rape them.

4. All our problems on both sides of the forced division are directly related to this unwise, unprovoked and imperialist attack carried out by Pakistan.

5. If there had been no attack on Jammu and Kashmir we could have been an independent state and could have been a bridge of friendship between India and Pakistan.

6. An independent, friendly buffer state between India and Pakistan could have helped to ease tension in the region and could have promoted peace, tolerance and stability in this volatile part of the world.

7. Pakistan’s proxy war and proxy politics has resulted in a loss of generation and Jammu and Kashmir continue to bleed, and families are still divided since October 1947.

8. We sincerely suggest that you revisit the wisdom of your imperialist policy, and instead of promoting proxy wars, hatred, religious intolerance and extremism, give fundamental rights to the people of Pakistan, especially the people of Balochistan and KPK.

9. Instead of bleeding people of Jammu and Kashmir with violence, terrorism and religious hatred, it is time that you abandon this redundant policy and make a new start by honouring your pledges to the people of Gilgit Baltistan and so-called Azad Kashmir.

10.The oppressed people of Pakistan and those citizens of Jammu and Kashmir State who are under your control are no longer prepared to accept this oppression, intimidation and injustice.

11.Time and again, the people of Gilgit and Baltistan and the so-called Azad Kashmir have demonstrated their political strength and public support by holding large peaceful protests to express their anger and frustration with the Pakistani subjugation and exploitation of our resources.

12.The UKPNP has always opposed extremism, violence and terrorism, and advanced the politics of peace, harmony and tolerance. However, we feel that if Islamabad and the secret agencies of Pakistan continue with their imperialist policies and treat us as colonized people then we fear that the youngsters may resort to some other methods, which we do not support.

13.Awami Action Committee has sincerely and peacefully campaigned for the fundamental rights of the local people. If the genuine demands of the Awami Action Committee are not met, and the authorities continue to play with their sentiments, then who knows what may happen in future. Who knows if the leadership of the Awami Action Committee will be able to control the anger of the Azad Kashmiri youths.

14.In view of the above, we demand:

• Abrogation of the Act 74,
• Establishment of the State Bank of Jammu and Kashmir,
• Establishment of a National grid for Azad Kashmir,
• Control of our resources, including the Jammu and Kashmir Properties in Pakistan.

We look forward to hearing from you.
