Various stages of odyssey

I, as an ideological Muslim, am an ardent supporter and votary of revival of Khilfah Islamiyah. As such have deep love and inclination towards Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s Pakistan. For me this country is sacred like holy cities of Mecca and Medina. I have no differences with the God-gifted-country Pakistan. Notwithstanding this I disagree with the way and functioning of Pakistan’s establishment.

1.      I had my reservations about Pakistan’s establishment even 44 years back, when I along with my friend, Maqbool Ganai, in May 1969 were arrested and tortured in Muzaffarabad (Azad Kashmir) jail by police so severely that other prisoners yelled invectives at them.

The then Mahaz-e-Raishumari leaders including Maqbool Bhat, Ghulam Mustafa Alvi, Adv. Khaliq Ansari and others informed Azad Kashmir High court about our plight. Then Chief Justice, Justice Saraf, argued himself with public prosecutor and we were released after eight months. In November 1969 got membership of Maqbool Bhat’s JKNLF.

2.      I had my reservations about Pakistan’s establishment even on July 19, 1983 when after crossing ceasefire line through Kamalkote, Uri reached Chinari village and met Pakistan army officers. At Chinari rest house I insisted the army officials to let me meet their senior officers and allow me to visit Afghanistan and also to offer fateh-khawni at the graves of Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam.

 After 15 days I was ‘respectfully’ pushed back towards Kamalkote border. Then after my return, on Aug. 20, 1983 I merged my organization ‘Muslim League’ with Sofi Akbar’s ‘Mahaz-e-Azadi, and decided to work under the flag of Mahaz for independent and sovereign Kashmir.

3.      I had my reservations about Pakistan’s establishment even on November 09, 1990 when in Muzaffarabad about 18 guerilla organizations formed a unified front under ‘United Jehad Council’. And just after three months some ‘friends in the establishment’ got it split in two in the name of accession with Pakistan.

I along with four thousand mujahedeen marched towards Chakothi with slogan ‘We will go with empty hands, but won’t bow in submission’. Thereafter, I as a seasoned guerrilla strategist advised my colleagues in ‘Maqbool Parivaar’ to handover their remaining guns to Syed Salahu-ud-din and play role in retrieving Kashmir resistance from the state of anarchy. After the assassination of Maqbool Malik, (Mahaz-e-Azadi leader) I launched Save Kashmir Movement in London. I advised Kashmir resistance leaders to work for peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute through a political resistance platform. I also talked to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Thus in September 1993 Hurriyat Conference came into being as a pro-freedom political alliance.

4.      I had my reservations about Pakistan’s establishment even when JKLF leader Yasin Malik on May 21, 1994 announced unilateral ceasefire to prevent this nation from infighting and civil war, but Pakistan’s Jang newspaper wrote an editorial named “Traitor” and labeled Malik as akin to Mir Jaffar and Sadiq.

I along with Dr. Ghulam Qadir Wani Shaheed protested outside the office of Jang newspaper and addressed the protestors and said “we need you (Pakistan establishment) as friends not master in our Kashmir struggle.” Some ‘friends in the establishment’ threatened to put me in jail.
 Generals of Pakistan
 In Pakistan’s 66 year-old history army generals have ruled for 30 years. Field Marshal Ayub Khan attained office in blood-less coup in 1958. In 1965 Indo-Pak war, Pakistan army under the command of Ayub Khan showed parity with the Indian military might. This war gave India a clear message that for peaceful, honourable, just and lasting resolution of Kashmir dispute, Pakistan can adopt any method.

General Zia-ul-Haq Sahab seized power in 1977. In 1979, a dangerous situation evolved due to Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan. General Zia as an adept strategist supervised Afghan guerilla war for 10 years which resulted in disintegration of Soviet Union into 14 independent nations, including five Muslim republics in Central Asia.

General Musharraf on October 22, 1999 in blood-less coup d'état assumed office, when he along with his colleagues were coming from an official visit of Sri Lanka. His plane wasn’t allowed to land and was advised to land on some Indian or Dubai airstrip. The plane was running short of fuel. It was Pakistan army’s courage which showed unprecedented discipline even after encircling Prime Minister House, seized power without any violence.

After 9/11and its aftermath General Musharraf demonstrated fortitude and for ten years through strategic manoeuvre provided security to Pakistan. US led NATO bombarded Afghanistan and its blitz killed thousands of people there.

Musharraf called for demilitarization of Kashmir on both side of ceasefire line in order to allow Kashmiris decide their fate themselves. Musharraf sent Nawaz Sharif Sahib to Saudi Arabia, where he remained for seven years offering his prayers at Kabba and sending salutations on Prophet (PBUH) in Medina.

Today Nawaz Sharif as seasoned leader of Pakistan by adopting doctrine of codependency wants good bilateral relations with India through trade and investment.

This all is good, but how it befits to treat Kargil war hero and who saved Pakistan against Western imperialism on Afghanistan front to be treated like a criminal? He (Musharraf) should have been honoured with Hilal-e-Imtiyaz and instead he is subjected to humiliation. General Musharraf in his book ‘In the Line of Fire’ on Page 136 writes, “We (Musharraf and Nawaz Sharif) had both wanted to put Kashmir firmly on the world's radar screen, politically as well as militarily.”And then he writes in detail about the Kargil and other events.

For us Pakistan’s all Civil or Military rulers are highly respected leaders. By indulging in disregard and disrespect of each other you are psychologically providing your rival on Kashmir front a ‘sweet dish’. And thus unconsciously you are neutralizing resolve of Kashmiri nation. You may continue to issue statements that “we will continue to provide political, diplomatic and moral support to Kashmiris” but this all is just rhetoric in our eyes.

OIC a coffee house
 If this (OIC) world organization of Muslims can’t ameliorate Egypt’s military rulers, stop civil war in Syria and find a way out there, stop Bangladesh’s ruling part from committing oppression and help Kashmiris fighting for their right to self-determination, then its status is nothing more than a coffee house where Muslim rulers come, have coffee and other things and then leave.
